Tribute

Cast your mind back to November 29, 1998.

It is the dying embers of a routine 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers and a fresh-faced youngster from Huyton has just thundered into a challenge on the right-hand touchline in front of the Kop.

It inspires a huge cheer and brings a smile to the faces of the followers in the stand, as one of 'their own' achieves the reality of what thousands dream of - to play for Liverpool Football Club.

But what those supporters would not have realised at the time, was that it was the moment when one of the Reds' greatest ever players began his rise to the pinnacle of the world game.

It may have only been a cameo appearance when he came on as a 90th minute substitute for Vegard Heggem, but in that period of injury-time he showed the kind of commitment and drive that would become a feature of his Reds career.

Fast forward to the present and Steven Gerrard is on the verge of making his 400th appearance for Liverpool when Rafael Benitez's side welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Sunday...
