Tribute

Cast your mind back to November 29, 1998.

It is the dying embers of a routine 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers and a fresh-faced youngster from Huyton has just thundered into a challenge on the right-hand touchline in front of the Kop.

It inspires a huge cheer and brings a smile to the faces of the followers in the stand, as one of 'their own' achieves the reality of what thousands dream of - to play for Liverpool Football Club.

But what those supporters would not have realised at the time, was that it was the moment when one of the Reds' greatest ever players began his rise to the pinnacle of the world game.

It may have only been a cameo appearance when he came on as a 90th minute substitute for Vegard Heggem, but in that period of injury-time he showed the kind of commitment and drive that would become a feature of his Reds career.

Fast forward to the present and Steven Gerrard is on the verge of making his 400th appearance for Liverpool when Rafael Benitez's side welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Sunday...

sunday...

didn't go down to the chalet ytd as it wld be pretty late and the ones i know weren't staying over. so i went to my good buddy place in yishun, as it was his mom's 70th birthday. we only realise ytd that our mom's birthday were a few days apart, and we've known each other like 20yrs. :p so i kinda chill at his place and watch the man united game as he was a fan of man u. so being a liverpool fan, i rejoiced when boro scored, but it was shortlived as man u was a better side. oh well, we'll meet them on dec 15th 2007 but in the meantime, we take on a better arsenal side tonight and i know it's going to be an interesting game.

another weekend - another birthday

its been a month of birthday celebrations and it's not over. There is still my mom (26th) , fong ee (colleague - 27th), sophie (27th), robin (29th) and huirong's (31st) birthday. just remembered that fong ee's birthday clashes with my mom's birthday. so i am really sure that i would be able to make it to the chalet or maybe i could. not sure what is sophie is doing for her birthday, robin will be back in town only next month and that's when the 'Knights of the Middle Age Round Table', Lucas, Robin, Rodney & Roch (tats me) meets again. like rod says, 'Feasting shall begin in a while, as we await Sir Robin's return' and it will. lastly, there's beautiful huirong who will be having her own b'day celebration and i know its gonna be great.

talking about great, had a swell time at pat's place ytd. we had shit loads of drinks, it was a good thing we had dinner first. met three of her friends, gregory, debbie and janel, who were just as crazy as us in every way. never thought that juz crashing at a place could be this fun but then again, its not the place but the people that makes it a memorable one and ytd was just that. futhermore, pat's place was just nice and cozy, so much that leslie had a courtship with pat's aircon. so parents forget abt protecting your daughters from leslie, protect your aircons!! lol! oh man, i know leslie is going to come after me if he reads this but i can't help it, dude. :p sigh, wished time would just stand still ytd but all good things must come to an end otherwise we would all be alcoholics. hehehehe...

well, happy birthday pat!! it's not easy being 18 but it's a whole load of fun. from a beautiful baby when i first saw you to a beautiful young lady. you have done alright so far but there's lots more that you can offer in sch and in life, so don't hold back or let anybody put you down. believe in yourself and things would go very much your way. cheers to a beautiful and less complicating life ahead. love you lots and god bless.

rememberin' oct 13 1998

it almost slipped my mind that Oct 13th was my dad's 9th year death anniversary and it will be 10 years next year. so how did i pull through for the past 9 years. well, for a start, i wasn't close to my dad... his drinking habits and pride made me lost my respect for him.

it happened 21 years ago, when i was waiting to get enlisted into the army. we were all invited to a wedding @ selegie road, some relative that i do not know. as usual, my dad had drank more than he should and everyone else who was drinking with him didn't help. i remembered at the end of the dinner, my dad couldn't walk straight but he was still saying some things to the whole lot as we were leaving. my dad had though they were laughing with him but actually they were laughing at him. finally we got him out and was about to take the bus but my dad wanted to take a cab. since he had no cash with him, he yelled back to us to wait for him while he go and withdraw at the atm. he crossed the road when it was red man and was almost knocked down by car. the driver was quick to react and i thought that would have jolted my dad a bit but it didn't, he just went on walking. i remembered i was crying at the bus-stop urging my mom to leave the place and my dad behind, not wanting my mom or my younger sister to take anymore embarrassments, in front of a packed bus-stop. in the end, we took the bus back, while my elder bro and an uncle went after my dad. after which, i can't recall no more.

apart from everything that happened, my dad continued drinking and treated his 'friends' whenever he was paid. there was late nights arguments and fights in the family. there was once i had to stop my eldest bro and my drunken dad, didn't know how i had the strength to pull them apart and make it end there & then. the final straw came, when we had a call from a taxi driver, he had found my dad lying by the drain @ serangoon road, dead drunk. the taxi driver carried my dad into the cab and drove him back. my second elder bro had to help the taxi driver bring my dad up. my dad had passed out and slightly bleeding from the head. after everything the good Samaritan taxi driver had not charge anything for bringing my dad home.

later did we find out that my dad had gone to drinking with some 'buddies' at a coffee shop. as usual he would treat everyone and they drank till closing time. knowing my dad was not in a stable condition and when he passed out nearby, hitting his head on the kerb. they just left him there and went off, not giving a damn. all except the chinese taxi driver who witnessed everything n brought my dad safely back home.

so yea, my dad had too much pride and failed to see his own faults. he passed away finally in oct 13, 1998 due to some complications, he was a diabetic.

well, if u have to drink, do drink but make sure u have friends who would take the trouble to send u back home.

october

its a friday october morning and i'm still up when i shld be catching up on my much deserved sleep. oh well, i make full use of the days since time is passing so fast nowadays. anyways, its been a busy week with plans happening at the last moment.. here's a blast from the past :p

celebrated melvin's birthday at east coast last saturday, it was good to see everybody again after a long time. of course, we had the usual company of vodkas, carlsbergs and the game master. we had a crazy time, doing crazy things but it was hell of a fun!! got abt seven in the morning and crashed till noon. with a real hangover, i was helping my eldest scrub the walls of my hall. its was really no joke, climbing up and down the ladder. after 6 hours or so, we were done.. rest for a while before heading down to ice cold beer to mary anne & her 'soon-to-be' fiance, good thing that melvin came along. otherwise, it would be quite ackward. well, the guy is cool and yes - we accepted him into the family. anybody who has a problem with that could see me or mel. we'll be happy to clear any doubts or anyone. lol.

okie moving on, had dinner on monday after work @ bugis with andy, ricky, xin lan & jenny. after dinner, did a little of 'shopping' n bought a very nice shawl for my sista, lina - a real belated b'day gift. then we headed to the arcade where we had so much fun.. playing some shooting game.. forgot was it called. will remember the next time ard.

on tuesday, had rosary at my house.. sms some people from the choir but only jo-n came.. after everything, we met jen & pat for supper. kept jen company till she completed her 'homework' and we all had a fun time reading her homework. we were all tired but we had a very good laugh. went out on wed again to clark quay for dinner & drinks @ pump room with andy, ricky, linus & carrie. we met up with our ex-colleagues, nick & wendy. it was good catching up with them and also knowing that linus & carrie are together again.. however, the bill really killed us. lesson learnt, have our dinner somewhere else.

i had nothing plan for thursday so i stayed back in the office to help out doing some stuffs. what is it, won't be able to leak any secrets at the moment as there are prize money involved for the team. so stay tuned!! ;p

the weekend is finally here.. will update the events as i go by.. in the meantime, watch this :-

all by myself

didn't go for a reason today
don't think i'll be going tmr too
it's nothing more than a number game
i know that i wasn't missed today
cause i am just another face in the crowd
guess i need a break from everyone
and from myself too
my neck hurts
and i'm hungry

went to doctor abt two weeks back... was told of my medical conditions that made realise that i should go easy on myself. somehow i don't see myself living at a ripe old age.. tat tot has never occurred to me.. maybe the most in my 50's and tats 12 yrs from now. don't see myself getting married too, guess i am not supposed too. i came into tis world alone, and i guess i'll be leaving it the same way.

this is between me and myself, we got some straightening out to do.

nameless

i'm just another face in the crowd
nameless as i can be
forgotten and not cared for
wish i could just disappear
and leave eveything behind
left alone to my own devices
i probably would

sunday afternoon

sunday afternoon and the sun's shinning with all its glory. a beautiful day to hit the beach and get urself a tan that you've always wished for. a nice sunday to unwind before the week starts.

as for me, i am lazing at home; doing some computer maintenance and i stumble upon this cool feature FoxyTunes, "it lets you control almost any media player and find lyrics, covers, videos, bios and more with a click right from your browser. iTunes, Winamp, Windows Media Player and other players are supported..." but its an add on for IE7. just heard from a good friend of mine that firefox has the same add on. so no more having ur windows player open while you browse the web. whats more, the songs still shows up on ur msn messenger. cool, eh.

its been a long week and a lot of things have happened especially on the love scene. cupid has decided to go for along vacation. hence, i've heard of three break ups.. the longest was 7 yrs and they were planing to get engaged. sigh... sometimes i wonder what is it like to be in a relationship for so long and risk giving it all up because of a stupid mistake. 'don't know what you've got till its gone' by cinderella, would be a fitting song.

I can't tell ya baby what went wrong
I can't make you feel what you felt so long ago
I'll let it show
I can't give you back what's been hurt
Heartaches come and go and all that's left are the words
I can't let go
If we take some time to think it over baby
Take some time, let me know
If you really want to go

Don't know what you got till it's gone
Don't know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It's just this song
And it ain't easy to get back
Takes so long

well, i got to go and get ready for mass..... will be back later to update. till then, keep the fire burning in your love.

techno -

okie, i guess this post is long overdue.... so where shall i start??? mmmmmmmm... well, first off, its been a long busy week and this would carry on till mid-September when things go back to normal...hopefully.

caught two movies last week, 'evan almighty' & '881' and i muz say tat i actually prefered '881'. being a non-chinese, it sure brought some inside on getai and their culture. it sure me laugh and tear even though it was in mandarin & hokkien... i would give it 5 popcorns!! besides movies, had dinner @ manhatten fish market @ central and later adjourned to brewerks where liverpool trashed derby on the big screen. ended sat night @ a chinese karaoke pub listening to chinese songs and playing some dice game. was too stoned but i eventually understood the game but don't ask me to explained it.. hahaha.
  • mon - went to church after work (holy hour)
  • tues - had dinner @ indulgze (bugis) with my beloved colleagues.
  • wed - had briefing after work & dinner @ IMM wif andy
  • thur - briefing after work tmr - dinner?
  • fri - b'day dinner after work @ hyatt?
  • sat - chalet?? after church
  • sun - rest day??

so thats about the story of my life this week which will continue till next week but i wld not want to bore my readers..... wait till the end of the week okie. see... now u have something to look forward to. :p in the meantime, i would like to thank my sweet colleagues for being there for me. not sure what i'll do if u guys weren't around. thanks for giving me something to look forward too everytime.

ok yes, i miss comex.. sigh!!

oh yes, we have this secret angel thing going on in our office for the month of august and it's quite exciting. my beautiful angel has been pretty sweet, giving me notes, chocolates, heart-shaped candy, etc. not sure who she is yet, so i guess i have to wait till aug end to find out.

lost

been thinking to take a break from project j for a while or so... i guess its the age that is catching up with me and i don't feel right into it lately. its seems like i have nothing much to contribute and i no longer have to drive for anything anymore. guess i need to find myself again...

the angelus choir

here's something i wrote on 15 aug 2005 with regards to angelus choir anniversary...

"today marks the 23rd anniversary of the angelus choir. founded in 1982 by the late Fr Fortier, the choir comprised cousins, two sisters and friends, if memory serves me right. william joined in '86, and myself in '87, the same year as tony and aaron. the same people who practically dragged me to joined the choir and so i did at the age of 18. the choir was like 30 strong singing our lungs out at the old church at sembawang. the half-pass-six choir we were called and practises were very much the same as now. we started at 4pm, had mass at 6.30pm (hence the name, the ½ pass six choir) n continued prac till as late as 10pm. we had no mics and of course, there wasn't aircon at all. we had a small choir loft on the second floor of the church but for a very short time, the rest of time of my years there, we were upfront facing the altar. we had to battle mosquitoes and all kind of insects who intruded our practises. getting mosquitoes bites everytime was the norm, until we decided to close all the windows and leave the side door open only. christmas was like the thing we look forward every year. there was one year that i bet all of us will remember for a very long time, it was after mass and everybody was like hugging each other at the church porch. then the girls were happily hugging everybody until they realised that they were also hugging some foreign workers who decided to get into action, it was so funny. the girls freaked out and hit behind some of the choir guys. there was this other time when i wasnt in the choir yet but my sis was. i saw william outside my door step with a baseball bat with my sis. apparently someone was following my sis, and she called william who came down with a baseball bat and william called gerard who also came down with a baseball bat. at that time, i didnt really knew the both yet, but looking back now, its a good laugh.

the choir shifted to yishun in '92, reduced to ten to fifteen people and through the years the numbers declined slowly. mass was at six-ten pm, hence we were without a proper name for a year or so. at one point we had only five to seven people. we actually did a wedding mass accapella once with the help of Fr J.J. (he was a brother back then). without having a name, we had no identity so maria and cynthia approached Fr. Fortier and he chose 'The Angelus'. Hence, the angelus was born. the choir was back in full swing again when hatsuee, anne marie, sarah n joanne joined us in 95; mel, mark, jeremy and others joined soon after. and the rest like the say is history. i've been in the choir now for 18 years and its been a hell of a ride. i have learnt a lot of things and gained loads of friends. at the same time, this is where i learnt to be a soundman, thanks to david who showed me the ropes and got me interested. who in turn i taught melvin and mark. mel helps out whenever and mark have left the choir and current he is a soundman for some joint now. so all the best to him. i have a young padawan now n she is catching up fast; and she is none other than david niece's pat! kinda cool isn't it, how things come around.

well, the choir has lots of history behind it, we have a priest, a nun, a ceo and lots more. all of them at one point were like teenagers in this choir. my eldest sis, the nun, is in london. leon came back to singapore recently to celebrate his first mass as a priest but i am not sure where he is now. and the ceo is none other than the guy with the baseball bat, william. hahahaha...funny how things come around yeah! to everyone from the angelus past and present, love you guys lots. "

Case of the baby who announced return of Christ

Jesus is coming back!

Dear All,

Just got this touching and uplifting mail. It is a must read.
Remain blessed.

In the public hospital of Itaguaí (RJ) last weekend
was born a girl with hands joined together, like one
who's praying.

The doctors told the parents that they would operate
the hands of that girl, and that they would give her
antistatic. The operation was easy because it seemed
like the hands were simply glued together one membrane (skin) layer apart.

When they opened up the hand of that child, you can't
imagine what was written...

JESUS IS COMING BACK... The doctors started weeping and all that were in the hospital.

The suburb of Itaguaí is undergoing a movement
now, People that have withdrawn from church are going back and others are receiving Jesus Christ as the only
savior.
God sent that child simply to convey that message.
After a few hours she died: JESUS IS COMING
BACK

I have received now I'm passing on!!!

The Lord of Lords is coming back.
"Seek you the LORD while HE may be found, call you
upon Him while He is near:" Isaiah 55:6

2nd anniversary

it's been two years since i've known the gal but things have changed. she's now attached and i'm still coming into terms with it. she wanted us to meet up ytd but i declined.. don't think i'm ready to meet her bf yet. yea, it does hurt knowing that i'm not always on her mind like i use to be.. or so i think. the calls and sms has been infrequent and the feelings are slowly dying... hopefully one day, i'll forget her n she'll do the same.

well, happy 2nd 'anniversary' to us!!

on a brighter note, issac & belle are getting married!!

The Bottom Line
Someone's act of altruism will inspire you to follow in their footsteps today.

In Detail
Someone's act of altruism will inspire you to follow in their footsteps today. It might be a simple gesture, like someone holding a door for you -- or it might be a major gift, like a stranger in the car ahead of you who pays for your toll. Nevertheless, the unnecessary kindness someone shows you will not go unnoticed by you. Appreciate the special effort, no matter how small it was, and tell yourself how easy it is to be a little bit kinder yourself

met the girl last night @ 2300hrs
we hanged at a void deck near her place
we chatted till the sun came up and
till streets were filled with people again
hurrying to work or for breakfast
but never failed to give us a stare
walked the girl home n we said our goodbyes
took a long bus ride home knowing
things won't be the same again.......

friday

i must say that i have not had so much fun for a long time esp after a tiring week.

first off, it was dinner or rather 'tea' wif my colleagues - andy, shao xuan, carrie wif special guests appearance by clarence. we went to coffee club @ IMM so i decided to have a $9.90 jamacian coffee or something like that. the $9.90 coffee tasted like kopi-si and i assure the kopi tiams still deliver good coffees than some coffee outlets here. kudos to them!! shall fall back on my 3 in 1 coffee the next time.

came back to yishun, met up wif corrinne and we went for the youth meet. it was our 1 yr anniversary, didn't know we've come this far. we had KFC after our session.. yummy!! we packed up and headed to a street soccer ground near by. i juz wanted to watch but i got drag into it. it's been a long time since i've kicked a ball hence why i cldnt go any shots on target. but i really had fun even though eugene who accidentally kicked my shin. it still hurts, but i had so much fun today...thanks guys!!!

the door closes as soon as it opens..

here i am, back where i started
going to lock myself up and
forget the world outside..
gave love a chance but
it proved me wrong

had a friend who almost took his life
locked himself up and
forgot the world outside..
alcohol and pills
was the new way to go but
it didn't prove a thing

way back into love

"All I wanna do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart again
I guess I'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end"

the last two lines says it all...
i am going to give a chance
i'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end

"I've been looking for someone to shed some light
Not somebody just to get me through the night
I could use some direction
And I'm open to your suggestions"

GIRLS...What you should know about

GIRLS...What you should know about Guys..

  1. Guys hate sluts.
  2. Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about.
  3. Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend or ex love-interest. Unless they're going for the let-her-complain-to-you-and-then-have-her-realize-how-wonderful-and-nice-you-are method.
  4. A guy who likes you wants to be the only guy you talk to.
  5. Boyfriends need to be reassured often that they're still loved.
  6. Don't talk about your guy friends to your boyfriend.
  7. Guys get jealous easily.
  8. Guys are more emotional than they'd like people to think.
  9. Givinga guy a hanging message like "You know what?!..uh...nevermind.." would make him jump to a conclusion that is far from what you are thinking. And he'll assume he did something wrong and he'll obsess about it trying to figure it out.
  10. If a guy tells you about his problems, he just needs someone to listen to him. You don't need to give advice.
  11. Guys love you more than you love them if they are serious in your relationships.
  12. Guys think WAY too much. One small thing a girl does, even if she doesn't notice it can make the guy think about it for hours, trying to figure out what it meant.
  13. Any guy could write out a rule book or advice book for flirting, but no guy can write out a book about relationships.
  14. Try to be as straightforward as possible.
  15. Guys learn from experience not from the romance books that girls read and take as their basis of experience.
  16. Guys don't really have final decisions.
  17. A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.
  18. Guys hate rejection, but they hate being led on even more.
  19. Guys really think that girls are strange and have unpredictable decisions and are MAD confusing but somehow are drawn even more to them.
  20. A guy would give his left nut to be able to read a girl's mind for a day.

" 5 cents TOO MUCH!" - IT WILL MAKE YOU THINK!!

A priest moved to a new parish and some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the bus from his home to the city.

When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a 5 cents too much change.

As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, "You'd better give the 5 cents back. It would be wrong to keep it." Then he thought, "Oh, forget it, it's only 5 cents. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet."

When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the 5 cents to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too much change."

The driver with a smile replied, "Aren't you the new priest in my parish? I have been thinking lately about going to mass. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. I'll see you at church on Sunday"

When the priest stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest lamp post, held on, and said, "Oh God, I almost sold your Son for 5 cents."

Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read.

This is a really scary example of how much people watch us as Catholics and will put us to the test! Always remember (as I try to remember) that you carry the name of Christ on your shoulders when you call yourself "Catholic."

Watch your thoughts; they become words.

Watch your words; they become actions.

Watch your actions; they become habits.

Watch your habits; they become character.

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

the weekend

well, the weekend was swell!!
went to work on sat, then straight to church for a wedding mass as the choir was singing. didn't know it was a friend's sisters' wedding, i was really not dress for the occasion. everything went well. after wedding mass, came back home and got ready for dinner but i was running late. was suppose to be at little india @ seven, i left home @ seven. was caught in traffic jam and only arrived an hr later.. my family had finished dinner and they'd packet the food for me.. the cab fare was $20. so yea, it was wasted trip. took the bus home and feast on my dinner. at this point i was still unsure, if i shld head down to obar.

so after a few phone calls, i decided to go. met up wif gab n joanne at yishun n headed down to obar. good thing there wasn't a long queue. i must say that the crowd have changed so much.. it used to be fun place, where ppl come to just chill out and party... the atmoshere was juz great!! all is gone now ... sigh, good things never last. can't say i really enjoyed myself, someguy pissed me off and really wanted to lay one on him but i didn't and the tot juz ruined my night. sigh! :p

anyways, everything else went on fine.. corrinne had her time of her life dancing like she's never done before, while mel n me kept a look out for vultures. ;p seriously if i had a gf, she's not gonna be dancing like corrinne, she's gonna give me a heart attack doing so. I am getting too old for this kinda shit. :p all in all, it was a beautiful night!!

sunday was spend with the gal. :)

love and hate collide

i find myself withdrawing from the crowd
into my own circle i find my comfort zone
away from love, hate and superficial people
into my own circle i heal myself
when love and hate collide
and in my own circle
i find myself ...

YNWA

Yes, it's gonna be an exciting evening on May 23 @ Athens, even UEFA President Michel Platini agrees. Platini is hoping for a repeat of the epic final between the two sides in Istanbul when they go head to head once again in Athens on May 23.

"Along with every other football fan across the world, I am looking forward to the final. Two clubs who have won the trophy eleven times between them will meet for the second time in two years. On the last occasion in Istanbul in 2005, Liverpool and Milan produced a match that occupies a special place in European football history."

"I am sure that the two teams will be striving to make this year's final an equally memorable occasion at the splendid Athens Olympic Stadium." (do check out the stadium, it's awesome!!)

You'll Never Walk Alone!!

champions league semi-final

was having drinks with my colleagues on monday night when one of them told me that man united will be winning the champions league this year and told me not to dream abt liverpool winning it. before i could say anything, my colleague shot back, 'it's not a dream, its a reality!'.

last night liverpool played chelsea at anfield but i went to bed knowing that we will be in the finals and true enough, liverpool beat chelsea 4-1 on penalty kicks. so to my good ol'colleague of mine, see you in the finals on May 23rd... if u can make it there.

It's the simple things in life we forget....

caught spiderman 3 @ gv plaza singapura, 1830hrs yesterday but i'm not going to spoil it for you. don't expect much, just sit back and enjoy the ride, after all it is adapted from a comic book. but there was something from the movie that hit me later on...

just as the movie ended, i received an sms from a colleague, one of her close friends had passed away due to chest pains. she had met him earlier in the day and of all the days she chose not to speak to him today although she sensed something was wrong. a few hours later, he passed away and it has left my friend devastated. she was in the hospital when she messaged me.

It's the simple things in life we forget....

simple things

Simple Things - Usher

Yeah, uhh
They say money can't buy you love
They say money can't buy you love
They never seem to listen
I'm all ears

Just copped your girl a brand new Rolex
But you can never find the time to spend at home
Thinkin' it's gon' keep her happy
When time is all she wanted all along

[Chorus]
It's the simple things in life we forget
You hear her talkin' but don't hear what she said
Why do you make something so easy so complicated
Searching for what's right in front of your face
But you can't see it

So you think that you know what's important
Steady chasin' your fame and your fortune
But you don't know
You're chasing a dime losin' a treasure
Those dollars don't make sense to me at all
Ooh, it goes

Duh da duh da
You give her spending money
Duh da duh da
But all she wanna spend is time alone (tonight)
Keep givin' her
The finer things but
But she don't really need that
If you don't stop you're
You're gonna end up alone (alone)
The world without love (duh duh da duh da)
Why would you do it

[Chorus x2]
It's the simple things in life we forget
You hear her talkin' but don't hear what she said
Why do you make something so easy so complicated
Searching for what's right in front of your face
But you can't see it

It's the simple things in life we forget
You hear her talkin' but don't hear what she said
Why do you make something so easy so complicated
Searching for what's right in front of your face
But you can't see it (listen)

Stop tryna buy her love
'cuz you won't ever have enough
There's always someone with more than you
You need to pay her attention
Give her what she needs
Do the simple things
Before you lose your girl to me
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeeah
Yeeeah yeah
Play on playa
Yeah
Your girl comin' wit' me shorty, haha
I'm tellin' you man
'cuz u know

[Chorus]
It's the simple things in life we forget
You hear her talkin' but don't hear what she said
Why do you make something so easy so complicated
Searching for what's right in front of your face
But you can't see it

You better look out
I hear you talkin', i hear you talkin' (ha)
But what are you saying
Oh hoo oh hooo
Don't be a fool
You got a good thing
Man are you blind
Stupid or crazy?
You got a good thing (uh)
You got a good thing
If that's your lady
You better hold on
And give her what she want
Before she move on
Man I tell you cars, clothes, and fancy things don't mean a damn thing
If you ain't kickin it baby

[Chorus]
It's the simple things in life we forget
You hear her talkin' but don't hear what she said
Why do you make something so easy so complicated
Searching for whats right in front of your face
But you can't see it

[Fade]
Don't let this be the thing you'll always regret, no
It's right there, it's right there

better than me

I told myself I wouldn't miss you
But I remembered
What it feels like beside you
I really miss your hair in my face
And the way your innocence tastes
And I think you should know this
You deserve much better than me

A Piece of True Love and Humanity

A Piece of True Love and Humanity

Got this off a friend's blog.

Life is not always about winning but a lot of time, it is about bringing a piece of true love and humanity into this world. This is what the boys in the story did; they had put aside winning in that moment. Certainly something which we all need to learn and constantly remind ourselves. What would you do?….you make the choice. Don’t look for a punch line, there isn’t one. Read it anyway.

My question is: Would you have made the same choice? At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question:

“When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?”

The audience was stilled by the query. The father continued.

“I believe that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.”

Then he told the following story:

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, “Do you think they’ll let me play?” Shay’s father knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

Shay’s father approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, “We’re losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we’ll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.” Shay struggled over to the team’s bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. His Father watched with a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father’s joy at his son being accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay’s team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the stands.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay’s team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat. At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn’t even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball. However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay’s life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher. The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game. Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman’s head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, “Shay, run to first! Run to first!”

Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled. Everyone yelled, “Run to second, run to second!” Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball, the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher’s intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman’s head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, “Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay”. Shay reached third base because the opposing short stop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, “Run to third! Shay, run to third!” As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, “Shay, run home! Run home!” Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.

“That day”, said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, “the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world”. Shay didn’t make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

easter

its been a long tiring weekend which was spend practically in church - thurs to sunday. of course, i had fun inbtwn whenever i can. it didn't rain this yr on good friday, i wonder why but it did pour on sat afternoon. guess 'el nino' is really having a ball of a time tis year...sigh! hanged out wif gab, pat n joanne at the 'windy' block with some drinks and chips on friday night!! went for easter vigil mass on sat, two and half hour the mass was but it rocked, guess the choir made a diff to the mass this year. all that endless sunday afternoon practise finally paid off!!

after mass, took cab down to liquid kitchen @ bukit timah to meet my colleagues for drinks. watched man united lose to portsmouth - courtesy of rio!! guess he got paid off by roman :p well, the upside of it, it was good to see man u lose - the downside of it, it gave hope to chelsea who are juz three pts away but man united has a game in hand. it will be nice though to see man united and chelsea being dumped out of the champions league tmr and liverpool sweep aside psv at anfield on tues!! so its going to be valencia, roma, liverpool n bayern munich semi-final. wanted to go ac milan but bayern has the away goal advantage but then again anything can happen. wld love to see a liverpool and roma final but i guess we wld meet in the semi final, so i guess it liverpool and valencia finals... rafa's old club. now here's the irony, morientes is the leading scorer for valencia.

anyways, the birthday gal, carrie, just got her day ruined by man united but we all had a good time. as the place were closing, the idea of heading to east coast was drop by andy as our other colleagues were spending the night there. it was supposed to be andy and me but the b'day gal joined us too. took a cab from bukit timah to east coast, reached there abt half pass three. jumnah, aisya n wati was still up and was sweet enough to heat up the pit so that we cld bbq. carrie stayed wif us for an hr or so before going back while the rest of us stayed till 7am before heading home. the whole time we were there, not a single leave moved.. the night was so still. shared a cab wif jumnah back to yishun and i went straight back to church again to help out the choir. came back home at abt 10am and finally crashed at 12pm.

the weather is still freaking hot and the fan is not helping much. got an ucler on my inner lip and my cough is back .. it hurts even more now. i'm 38 but i look a decade younger but when i cough, i feel twice my age. gonna take a shower again and crashed.. hop i'll feel better tmr.

stuck in moment you can get out

what happens when members of blur, the verve and the clash come together?? well, you get 'the good, the bad and the queen'. bought the album last night along with akon's 'konvicted' and u2's '18 singles'. yes, i actually bought cds after so long. :p

well, the weekend ended on a sweet note...well almost. went down to eastpoint to meet fiz @ starbucks where i was intro'd to her friend, alexis. so we chilled at starbucks and later had dinner @ tampines. went shopping after dinner and that is when i got my cds. not wanting to go back yet, we grab a drink each and went to a nearby playground. the funny thing is that alexis reminds me abit of debbie and andi; an interesting gal actually.

after everything, we walked alexis home where we saw accident on the other side of the road (it was on those small roads). at first we thought it was argument between the drivers as we saw a pick up truck and a car behind; but as we drew closer, we saw an old man crying beside a woman who laid motionless just behind the truck. two cars were parked just after the truck and a shirtless guy was directing traffic. then another car pulled up, a teenage gal got out & ran towards the body crying, MA!! (mother, in dialect). just about then, the ambulance arrived and the paramedics took out the stretcher. it was the same time also that we have to take a turn into the blocks.

all this happen within 5 mins while we were walking pass the accident towards alexis' place and we were all shaken by it but it affected us differently. for me, the thought for losing her mom at a young age is almost unbearable...the cry is still ringing in my ears. guess we should never take anyone for granted cause life is so fragile.

please keep the family in your prayers and give ur mom a big hug.

angina pectoris

woke up today with chest pains, went to work nonetheless but couldn't take it. so i went to see the doc who couldn't tell the cause of it; he gave me some painkillers and told me if it gets worse to go to A&E. well, he did a ECG on me and the heart beats are regular, so no cause for alarm yet. took a day's MC and rested @ home. thought by getting some sleep, the pain would go away but it didn't. sigh! can't take any deep breaths, cough, laugh, sneeze, burp or have any hiccups at the moment cause its gonna hurt.

it says in the website that angina pectoris (angina pectoris derives from latin and translates as 'tight chest') is often brought on by physical exercise, psychological stress, extreme cold or a heavy meal. all i had last night was noodles at marina centre with andy after the IT Fair. Hmmm, maybe it was it the IT Fair 2007; the psychological stress when stalls were reducing the prices at the eleventh hour. the physical exercise of pushing my way thru the crowds and the extreme cold of the air cons at the food court. yup, that could be the cause! :p

anyways, my NEC N411i died on me over the weekend.. so i lost all my contacts. so please do let me have ur contacts again.. the number is still the same. got myself a nokia 5300 xpress music on sunday and it just awesome... still getting use to the functions. ;p now i can upload my nieces and nephew pics. :)

my mom was talking earlier today about selling the house and moving to punggol. why punggol?? if it happens, i'm going to get my own place here in yishun!! there's no way that i'm going to travel from punggol to jurong for work everyday and i've just renewed my contract.

just took my medications and feeling the effects of it already. one of the tablets is the size of a 50 cent coin, no joke!! good thing is, i dun have to swallow it - juz dissolve into water and drink it. hmmm.... it taste like 100 plus!! lol. well, i gonna hit the bed soon as the head is spinning. hopefully, i'll be better tmr.

the pursuit of happyness

caught the movie, the pursuit of happyness over the weekend and it did bring back some memories for myself. i guess it was december 2005, when i was at the lowest point of my life. i remembered walking home in the rain one day thinking there was no future for me. i was without a job and completely broke. ever since i quit my job of 12 years in 2002, i couldn't hold on to a job for a least a year. the jobs that were offered to me were all contract jobs. i did roadshows, telemarketing & door to door sales and i realised something - i was not cut out for sales; but it did give me the opportunity to work with some big companies, which i've gained alot from (and it does looks good on the resume too :p).

it was during one of those roadshows in dec 2002, where i met my wld be financial advisor who an agent with a mutli-national insurance company. she was fresh out of university and i've just quit my stable job of 12 years to go into a commission based company. not sure why i trusted this 'newbie' but i did. how many agents have u met, told u that u have too many policys that u can handle and even considered dropping a few unnecessary ones so that you will be able to tie up your loose ends. well, this one did and she got me dumbfounded. so in jan 2003, i invested my cpf with her and its bearing its fruits now. i've included bric into my portfolio after reviewing my investment with her over lunch last month and no, she still has not asked me to get a policy from her.

its mar 07 now, i've lasted a year in my current job and i've just renewed it for another year. with an increased in salary and bonus in the bank, i was thinking how i was going to spend it. this is when chris gardener brought me to reality. i don't wanna be crying in the rain again with only a dollar to my name. i've come this far and i'm not going to throw it all away again.

Hell is a place called home

Little Ericka is 11 years old
She's steady tryna figure out why the world is so cold
So she pops X to get rid of all the pain
Plus she's having sex with a boy who's sixteen
Emotions run deep and she thinks she's in love
So there's no protection he's using no glove
Never thinkin' bout the conceqences of her actions
Livin' for today and not tomorrow's satisfaction
The days go by and her belly gets big
The father bails out he ain't ready for a kid
Knowin' her mama would blow it all out of proportion
cause she lives poor so no money for abortion
Ericka's stuck up in the world on her own
Forced to think that Hell is a place called home
Nothin' else to do but get her clothes and pack
She says she's bout to run away and never come back

last man standing

1 year ago today, i made two friends, chee xiang and mazlina. we were the newbies in the company, not knowing what we were getting into or will we survive one year in this company. 1 year on, i must say that it has been a hell of a ride. only wished that chee xiang has stayed on to enjoy the ride. well, i am looking forward (i think so i am) to another year of craziness and fun :p

to all my colleagues (past and present) - u guys are the best!! keep the laughters coming.

to mazlina - it has been great knowing and working with you. it's gonna be different without you around but life still has to go on, yah! all the best and hope u'll come back one day!! :) luv ya, sis!!
