'The Story of 8 Monkeys'

(This is based on an actual experiment conducted in the UK) :

Put eight monkeys in a room. In the middle of the room is a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling.

Each time a monkey tries to climb the ladder, all the monkeys are sprayed with ice water, which makes them miserable. Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempts to climb the ladder, all of the other monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon him and beat him up.

Soon, none of the eight monkeys ever attempts to climb the ladder.

Then one of the original monkeys is then removed, and a new monkey is put in the room. Seeing the bananas and the ladder, he wonders why none of the other monkeys are doing the obvious. But undaunted, he immediately begins to climb the ladder.

All the other monkeys fall upon him and beat him silly. He has no idea why. however, he no longer attempts to climb the ladder.

A second original monkey is removed and replaced. The newcomer again attempts to climb the ladder, but all the other monkeys hammer the crap out of him.

This includes the previous new monkey, who, grateful that he's not on the receiving end this time, participates in the beating because all the other monkeys are doing it. However, he has no idea why he's attacking the new monkey.

One by one, all the original monkeys are replaced. Eight new monkeys are now in the room. None of them have ever been sprayed by ice water.

None of them attempt to climb the ladder. All of them will enthusiastically beat up any new monkey who tries, without having any idea why.

*..................and that is how most companies' policies get established.*

Sometimes, it feels like this at the workplace. Employees just do certain procedures because others are doing the same....without knowing why they do them and whether what they have been doing all along can be improved or changed. They say its the policy. At times, it feels it's just the standard practices that have been passed down from employee to employee.
Nothing else.

a nighout

been staying back after work like the whole week and we hardly gor any life.. so on friday after ending at eight, my colleagues suggested dinner in town. after much hesitation, i joined them. but instead of dinner, we ended up @ the loof! - a rooftop bar at odeon towers, a cool chill out place. the kinda of place where u will find a nice blend of people. after the loof, we went to paulaner bräuhaus at millenia walk, it offers freshly-brewed german beer on the premises. guess we got to know each other better at millenia walk n i was a bit high. oh yes, the live band rocks! next stop -st james power station. anyone interested? ;p

went for the youth rally ytd at risen christ, it did touched me somehow and i hope the next rally session will be just as good.

somethin a friend said today brought me back to reality and it really did hurt as i was moving away from something i believe in. guess, i really have some soul searching to do.. need to find myself again.

the weekend!!

caught the match against the blues and its always sweet when we beat the blues. i guess when money gets in the way, it ain't football anymore. can see the jose was sending a message to the boardroom and thats a whole diff ball game. oh well, who's complaning!! Bring on Barca!!

had a not too bad sat although i had work today and work is actually fun when u minus out the callers, scoldings, complains and what not.. what counts is the colleagues i have and they are the wackiest colleagues i ever had.

its gonna be a busy week with work and more work.. might be going to MOS with my colleagues on feb 2nd - now that's something to look forward to.. yes, i do have some cool colleagues to chill out with....well, its the mid week..hope the rest of the days will be great and the weekend will be eventful, i hope.

well, its the second week of 2007 and i'll prob take the week to decide if i wanna stay in choir or leave for good, two decades is way too long to be in one place. besides, i'm involved with project j now and i guess i would be more happier there now. maybe, with the youth rally and retreat coming up, i'll be able to make a decision. till then, i hope to have a great week ahead. the weekend has been super boring... sometimes, i have a feeling of being used but i'll save that for another day. sleep beckons - good night!!

home on a saturday night and it sucks!! guess things are not going good lately. gotta have a life and places to go. turning 38 next month and i'm feeling depressed... i may be young at heart but age is catching on.. i'll be 40 in 2009 and god knows, where i'll be... prob dead and buried!!

just wanna get away from everything and from superficial friends.. i'm not the life of the party and i'm not the joker - i'm juz me, if u don't like having me around - juz let me know, i won't be around to bore you, in fact, i'll juz stay away from you. dun tell me, u understand what i'm going through, coz u don't and never will until u are 38, single and without a freaking life!!

here's the first post for 2007.

well, i had a quiet new year celebration at Mel's place with a couple of friends. we toasted to the new year and played cards = loser drink. we had loads of drinks; enough to last the rest of the epl season. ;p

never been out much except playing pool .. its been a boring weekend and i hope its not gonna be a sign of the things to come. i know I'm turning 38 next mth but i juz don't wanna slow down .. not juz yet.
